ABOUT

ARTIST STATEMENT

I have had a varied professional life. I have been a knitting instructor, a language arts teacher, a puppeteer and a family and couple therapist before I became a full-time artist. I enjoyed each one but artistically have the fondest memories of being a puppeteer. I believe my art today is similar. Artists reside in the shadow/studio. We cast shadows. We bring colors, shapes, lines and texture to life on our canvas. Like the puppeteer, the artist is not seen except by her paintings- the hands behind the scene.

BIO

I live, garden and create my art in Wynnewood, PA. I grew up outside of Manhattan and was fortunate to have a mother who took me to the art venues in NYC and encouraged my interest in making art. I have lived and worked in both Germany and Italy and traveled throughout most of western Europe, furthering my appreciatiation of art and practice.

Settling in Wynnewood, I was co-founder of two puppet troupes, “Tales Told Under the Magic Umbrella” and “The Fablemonger Puppet Theater.” I performed throughout the tre-state area for several years as well as developing educational materials for several museums. I was Artist-In-Residence at the Please Touch Museum as well as programming activities for children at the Museum of American Jewish History in Philadelphia.

I am a licensed Couples and Family Therapist, having practiced for over 20 years in a community mental health center, retiring as supervisor of outpatient services for children and adolescents. I often used art therapy techniques in my practice.

I have studied at the Main Line Art Center, Philadelphia Academy of Fine Arts (PAFA), Wayne Art Center and workshops in Maryland, North Carolina and New York. I am a founding member of MMX, a group of 10 mixed media artists. I am also a member of ARTsisters, Montgomery County Guild of Professional Artists (MCGOPA), Artists Equity, Da Vinci Art Alliance and the Delaware Valley Art League. I have exhibited in many shows and been honored with prizes. My work can also be seen at Spogue Gallery and LeBerger..
